Tie Buddies Review and Giveaway!!
As you probably know, my kids started their second week of school today!! We did all the normal back to school shopping: clothes, shoes, school supplies. But the most talked about thing for back to school? TIE BUDDIES!!! We got them for Jacob who is 4 1/2 and in pre-kindergarten.
First a little shoe tying background. When I was starting kindergarten, you had to be able to tie your shoes. So when Blake started we thought we might be in trouble because he didn't know how to tie them but his shoes were slip on vans and velcro tennis shoes. But we were surprised to find out that shoe tying is no longer a requirement. Fast forward a few years Blake finally learns how to tie his shoes at the ripe old age of 8!!! I think the main problem is that he is left handed and I tried showing him how to tie them backwards but it didn't really help. A few months later, Kayla at 6 starts tying her shoes. Blake ispissed happy for his sister. Jacob has been wanting to tie his shoes like the big kids but doesn't really have the fine motor control to do it. He just finally mastered the correct pencil grip. And then we discovered Tie Buddies!!
A little about Tie Buddies from their website. "Tie Buddies® will revolutionize when and how children learn to tie their shoes. With Velcro and slip-ons the average age of children learning to tie has increased with some children learning as late as 9 or 10.
Tie Buddies® offer children ages 3-9 the independence of tying their own shoes while quickly teaching them a method which is based around characters and stories depicted on the Tie Buddies® themselves. Tie Buddies® first offering includes one design each for boys and girls but rest assured more great characters are to come! "
Jacob loves his red and green race car Tie Buddies. We have had them on his shoes for a few months now and he will only wear the pair that has the Buddies on them. He is still having a little problem tying by himself but he is getting there and has made some big improvements. The hardest thing is trying to get them untied. I have to do that for him or they will end up in a huge knot.
Overall, these are a great, fun way to teach your child to tie their shoes!!
Would your son or daughter like a pack of their own Tie Buddies?? Thanks to Wendy one lucky reader will win their own Tie Buddies!!!

This would be the perfect thing to help my oldest (7) who has issues with fine motor skills how to tie his shoes. Doesn't hurt that it could also help his younger brother learn, too.
ReplyDeleteThey would prefer the Red and Green Race Cars.

The magic and fairy wand version would be perfect for our girls. My 7 year old was so upset that she recently declared she would NEVER wear shoes with laces. Maybe this would help her change her mind.

Wow, I have not heard of these and will have to look into buying a pair my 6 year old can't get it! I too knew in Kindergarten and thought Oh No. But not too worry... because I am pretty sure the whole class was without this knowledge... but they know how to run disk cleanup and defrag on command! Smart Kids!
