An Ode to the Overwhelmed

I had a post planned about Lent and my plans to give up cupcakes{that way I wouldn't have to go to work} but instead I read this and want to share it.  I don't know who the author is but I will do some research and update later.  I found it on the Momastry Facebook page.  If you haven't go read their blog NOW!!  Like really leave mine and head over and read Don't Carpe Diem  and then go read A Mountain I'm willing to Die On.   And then you can come back and read my blog post but by then you may never come back because you will have been sucked into the awesomness of Glennon.  So maybe read my post and then go get lost...

Here is:  An Ode to the Overwhelmed

And as you stand there
Late again
Because you forgot to allow time to park
And the elevator was slow
And you left 10 minutes late to begin with
With your shoes that pinch
And your pants that are a little too small
Since you started eating white bread again

And as you paw through your bag
Looking for the suite number
That you're not sure you wrote down to begin with

Let us now praise you.

You, the untidy.
You, the careless.
You, the easily distracted by sparkly things.

The money you spend on late fees alone
Could feed a family in Africa - Which reminds you that you meant to send in the kids' Unicef money and

And that despite your best efforts,
You rarely eat a square meal,
You almost never get enough sleep
And exercise seems like a word that magazines have developed
Just to make you feel bad about yourself.

But you are good and brave.
You, flying by the seat of your pants
Making it work
Putting out fires
Saying your prayers
And dancing your dance of now and later and maybe and

As innocent as each morning's sunrise,
You are a fount of good intentions.
Your good humor is as graceful as a baby giraffe,
Even if that joke you were trying to make to the hotel clerk fell flat
And your toast at the wedding came out sounding a little...funny.

But you have gifts that no one knows about.
You have the strength to bend in the wind
You have the joyful spirit that loves a good belly laugh,
You have the wisdom to understand that everything will all come out all right in the end and
You have the faith to light a candle rather than curse the darkness.

That is, if you could find the book of matches from that romantic restaurant that you went to for your anniversary but since you didn't have a reservation they made you wait at the bar for half an hour during which you had two appletinis and the rest of the night is a bit of a blur.
So much for the overpriced lingerie.
You are beautiful.
You are beautiful.

Frazzled and overworked and underpaid
You are the one who forgot your wallet
And forgot your receipt for the dry cleaners
And forgot your keys which you just set down five seconds ago, so where could they possibly have gone?
But you never forget to say, "I love you"
And you never forget to give a big smile to that nice parking guy
And you never fail to show endless patience when the
Too-tightly wrapped and overly-conscientious start to offer their
Oh-so-helpful suggestions about how you might feel better if you would just learn to alphabetize your spice rack.

You are beautiful.
So, wear the lingerie on Monday for no reason.
And why not just refuse to participate in the bake sale this year?
And give yourself a compliment for something you did well today.
Because you are the most beautiful person I've ever known.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

You may have seen me doing the Fast Friday Facts from This is Me Challenge.  Well her special Valentine's Day challenge is Your Love Story... And I found it especially fitting since I first realized I liked DJ on Valentine's Day!  So here is our love story...  {Wanna join in on the fun?  Had over and check out all the cool stuff on the This is Me Blog}

It was 2/14/2000.  DJ was a co-worker of mine at Henry's {market like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's}.  I was a senior in high school and a bagger/helper/do everything worker.  DJ worked in produce.

~I hate Valentine's Day by the way.  I was mad that I had to work, and mad that I wasn't at home eating Ben and Jerry's.  I was running around the store and saw DJ.  He called my name and I thought he was going to tell me to get back to work {we were always saying that to each other} so I snapped What? He said all sweetly Happy Valentine's Day.  AWWWWWW.  We started dating a couple weeks later and here we are 12 years later!!!!  Love you Honey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That time of Year again...

No I don't mean Super Bowl {hideous by the way!!} or Valentine's Day {that post is coming later}but for me the beginning of Feb means one thing: TAX REFUNDS!!!!!! Woo Hoo.  So what is the first thing I do with my tax check {besides deposit it Duh!} Shopping!!

These have plans have been swimming around in my head since October when my mom moved out.  We moved the 3 little boys downstairs and they share a HUGE room that is seriously about 400 square feet.  Blake and Kayla both have their own rooms upstairs.  Blake needs a bed, Kayla and little boys need furniture {end tables, tv stand, dressers...etc}

I headed over to the internet to start shopping {who shops in stores any more??} I decided to start my shopping at  You enter your search info and they search all the stores that sell products that match that description. Yay!! I found these super cute  off white distressed bedroom dressers  I think they would be perfect in Kayla's room.  But then my ADD kicked in and I started thinking about the kitchen.  I want to paint it a pale, sunshine-y yellow and how cute would that look with a oval dinning table white??

Then thanks to Pinterest {can you say addicted} I started thinking about re-doing our kitchen.  I would love to have a "formal" dining room where we could eat dinner at.  But in the kitchen we could have a huge bar and these gorgeous white counter stools with backs.     I figured since I hadn't even decided on a paint color I should go back to shopping for the kids. ;)

I found Blake a really cool loft bed.  It is as tall as bunk beds but instead of a bottom bunk this one comes with a desk.  Yay!!  Homework station.  More likely it will be Lego station but whateve.  I can live in my unreality if I want. Still haven't found the little boys a big dresser.  I want one that is light wood and has 8 drawers? Since all of their pants and shirts hang up, it will only be for undies, socks, and pajamas.  Let me know if you spot one.  Thanks!!
