Happy New Years Eve!!

Wow this has been a crazy and great year!! In January I turned 28. In February, Blake turned 9!!I love that as he gets older he is scared of things less and more willing to try new things.  He got a new bike and was finally brave enough to jump it and have lots of fun!!  He had a party with 5 of his friends.  Hubby took them to Fun Expedition and then all the boys had a sleep over!!

In March Hubby went to visit his parents with a snow boarding trip to Tahoe!  And since I was stuck at home with 5 kids for 5 days, I needed something to keep me occupied: I made my blog public!!  I can't believe how far my blog has come in these 9 months!  I have 650+ GFC followers!!! Plus I started a facebook fan page and a twitter page.  I have loved doing product reviews and book reviews. I am so thankful to all the companies and authors I have worked with this year and can't wait to do it all again in 2011!!

In March, Jacob turned 4.  He is so smart and so funny!! I can't wait to see how he grows and changes in 2011.  In April, Kayla turned 7!!  We had so much fun at Fun Expedition with two of her friends!!  I love that she is so sweet and helpful!!  She is my Little Mama.  In the end of April/ beginning of May my Dad came out to visit and  brought both of my sisters and my 2 nephews {Landon is the same age as Jake and Brady is the same age as Cody}.  That was a CRAZY but super fun few weeks and we were all sad to see them leave!!

In June all the kids {and I}were out of school and ready for an awesome summer!!! This was the first time Hubby has not been working so we wanted to make sure and take advantage of all of us being home.  We bought a membership to the Hands ON! Museum and took the kids there a lot!!  June 13th, we celebrated Mason's 1st birthday!!  He is so big now!!  No more baby.  Where has the time gone??  On June 30th, we drove my mom to Ashville so she could catch a plane to California.  She was only going to be gone a month but ended up staying 4 months!!

And in July, we took our first REAL family vacation.  We loaded up the kids and drove cross-country to CA!!  We stayed for 3 weeks and had the greatest time ever!!!  We took the kids to all of our old favorite places but this time we were the tourists!!  We went to Seaport Village, the beach, Legoland, Balboa Park, and saw tons of friends and family!!  We ate all we could of California burritos, Rubios' fish tacos, and avocados!! The kids were so good and the trip couldn't have been better.

We also let Kayla cut her hair for the first time.  She cut off 10" and donated it to Locks of Love.  Not to be outdone, I did the same.  My hair was the shortest it has EVER been but it looked really cute and is super easy to take care of.  We left San Diego around the 3rd of August to come home and get ready to go back to school.

Around the middle of August, Hubby and I first started having an idea that we wanted to open a cafe and bakery.  We started testing recipes and kind of day dreaming about owning our own business.  The kids and I went back to school and then we really started talking about opening our own shop.  And around the 3rd of September, I decided that we would really do it.

In October my Dad came out again and stayed for a month.  My mom also finally came back from California.  Hubby turned 33, we went to see One Republic and Maroon 5 in concert.  The kids had a blast Trick or Treating.  and we got a new member of the family: Scrappy a tiny little 2 pound Chihuahua.  He is maybe 3 pounds now and 21 weeks old. LOL

In November Cody turned 3.  He is a little crack up.  He always makes me laugh and is so much to hang out with.  Hubby and I went to a new business meeting put on by the local revenue department.  We learned a lot and then we went and got a business license and sales tax license.  And then near the end of November, we found the place we wanted to open our shop in!!

December has been so fun and so busy.  We are setting up the shop, playing in the snow, and having the kids a week early for Christmas break.  Gotta love snow days.  The kids have already missed 6 and a 1/2 days and that was in December!  The kids had a great Christmas and Hubby and I celebrated our 10th anniversary!!

I can hardly wait for the great stuff that 2011 will bring us.  Our shop The Crazy Cupcake will open in January.  I am 10 classes {2 semesters} away from graduating with my BA in English and a minor in Criminal Justice.  SO EXCITED!!!!  Here's to an amazing and healthy and successful 2011!!!

I always wondered why an adult would want an adult toy that looked like a regular toy until the other day.  I had just got Shivers in the mail so I took him our of the mailing box and stuck him in my dresser drawer.  Last night Hubby was rearranging the furniture in our room with Blake's help.  He took all the drawers out of the dresser to move it and Blake saw Shivers.  At least he thought it was a toy!!

ReadyLeash Review/ Giveaway

Have you heard of Rascodogs??  They make the super cool leash that has poop bags in the handle so you never have to worry about your pup pooping and you not having a way to clean it up.  And the most awesome thing about these bags is that they are 100% biodegradable and meet ASTM D6400 Standards, which means they decompose in less than 1-year under normal landfill conditions.

Here is some info from their website: "An innovative, NON-retractable leash with bags built-in! The ReadyLeash comes in 2 different sizes and 6 different colors! The 5/8″ version is for dogs under 50-lbs, and the 1″ version is for dogs over 50-lbs. We have added super-strong metal hardware to this leash to withstand even the strongest of pullers. The ReadyLeash features a comfort-grip handle with an integrated poop bag dispenser. Poop bags simply pull out like tissues and refill rolls easily pop into the handle. The ReadyLeash comes equipped with an adjustable lead (4-6 ft range) and a roll of 15 biodegradable Readybags. Bulk ReadyBags can also be purchased separately.

Since our puppy Scrappy, only weighs 2 1/2 pounds, I went with the 5/8" and lime green!!  LOVE IT!!  It is so easy to just pluck out one of the bags {they stick out like tissues in a box} and clean up any mess he makes.  At first I thought the leash might be too heavy but Scrappy is strong and had no trouble walking on it.

They have a great holiday promotion going on until Jan 1st.  Buy a ReadyLeash and get a free 6 pack of bags!! To redeem simply add both a ReadyLeash and a 6-pack of bags to your Amazon shopping cart (do not checkout with rascodog.com) and use claim code FREEBAGS. Happy Holidays from Rascodog!

Book Review & Giveaway: The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams

Title: The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams
Author: Rhonda Hayter
Publisher: Dial
Published: April 1, 2010
ISBN: 978-0803734685

Summary:

This is a great book for kids 8-12 years old. Kayla is almost 8 but reads at a more advanced reading level and she really enjoyed it.  I think younger kids would still like it but would need help reading it.  I really liked that unlike many children's books (or books written for young readers) this book was exciting and interesting.  While it deals with problems kids may discover, it's not condescending or false sounding.  This story rings true.

Like many people lately, Kayla is really into supernatural things like werewolves and vampires {and of course witches!}.  She loved the adventures of Abbie and she could relate to how her little brother is always bugging her.

About the Author:
Rhonda Hayter was born in St. Jean, Quebec. She was an actress for some time, appearing in plays on tour and in New York and Los Angeles. Now she works as a story analyst for a famous movie producer. When she and her husband found themselves with two little boys, one of whom morphed into a werewolf one day, The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams was born. Rhonda now lives in Los Angeles with her family. This is her first book.

And thanks to her 1 lucky reader will win a hard back copy of her book!!!

Oliver's Labels Review

Since Jacob was 2 1/2 and learned all the letters and how to spell his name {still trying to figure out where he learned them from LOL} he has loved seeing his name spelled out.  And now at 4 1/2 he can write his own name so he he wants to learn how to spell our last name.

When I got the opportunity to review these labels I knew that I had to make them for Jacob.  The hard part was choosing which design.  I finally settled on the dinosaurs and I am glad I did!!!  They are so cute.  Jacob loves seeing his name and the different cute dinosaurs.  Now he is even more into dinosaurs wanting to know which one is and their names and what they eat.  Luckily after his 2 older siblings I know quite a bit about dinosaurs and what I don't know there is always the internet.

Oliver's Labels makes label that stick on clothes or iron on, shoes labels, regular labels and mini ones, and now they even make photo labels!!  They also make a large {like for luggage} bag tag and a small {to hang on a backpack}bag tag.

One of the coolest things is they will print a code on your label so if you ever lose something with an Oliver Label on it you can get your stuff back!!  Think of all the sippy cups, bottles, and shoes that lost every day.  Now you can save money and never lose anything again!!

Book Review: Secrets by Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein

Title: Secrets {You Tell Me Yours and I'll Tell You Mine... Maybe}
Author: Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein
Publisher: Enchanted Self Press
Published: April 2, 2010
ISBN: 978-0979895210

Summary: "Following on the heels of the best-selling book The Truth, SECRETS is the continuing diary of a girl moving into her teen-age years. The Girl has plenty to fill her journal. The pages reveal a new school, a new baby in the family, new friends, a new guy and a new set of issues to face. Share the secret world of an almost-teen as she learns which secrets to share and which to keep to herself."

This book was a great follow up to The Truth.  As she gets older, the narrator encounters new problems and new twists in her life.  She moves to a new house in a new city, as to start a new school, her parents have a baby, she has to start babysitting her little sister, she gets a dog, FiFi, and she meets a new boy she likes.

I really liked this book.  I like that her parents stayed together, I figure all the fighting was due to finding out they were pregnant.  It is a joy to see how she grows and matures and how she handles all the changes life throws at her.  Like The Truth, Secrets will send you back to your childhood while helping you relate and guide your child as they grow.

Book Review: The Truth by Dr Barbara Becker Holstein

Title: The Truth: I'm a Girl, I'm Smart and I know Everthing
Author: Dr Barbara Becker Holstein
Publisher:
Published:
ISBN:

Summary: "THE TRUTH is a delightful, humorous secret diary, written by a girl who is 11-12 years of age. She is wise and yet innocent. Her words acknowledge those priceless truths that we all knew as kids. She makes us cry and laugh and see ourselves. Everybody loves reading her thoughts, secrets, adventures and solutions to difficult problems. Girls are naturally curious and this book gives them a real opportunity to see how a girl like themselves in so many ways handles her toughest problems and most personal thoughts.
Mom can read the book along with her daughter and not only be brought back to herself as a youngster, but find on every page relevant topics for discussion with her daughter. How do you handle a bully? How do you handle a crush on a boy? What about teasing? How do you find time to listen to your daughter? Do we have enough fun together? What really matters? There is space right within the book for the girl and or mom to make notes or her own diary entries."

This book is a flashback for me to 6th grade.  I totally remember wondering when I could get a  bra (as a skinny girl it happened later than some LOL) also my parents got divorced a year later so I remember them always fighting and worrying about them and them not even noticing.  I think it was really sad that she had questions but was afraid to ask her mom and when she did ask, her mom would blow her off and change the subject.  Reading this reminds me of the importance of answering my kids questions and never forgetting how important their feelings are.

This book makes you laugh and cry and is a must for read for all parents but especially those with girls.  In about 2 years I want to sit down and read this with Kayla.  I think it will be hugely beneficial to both of us!  I think that reading this will help young girls and pre-teens realize that what they feel is not unique and that pretty much every girl has the same feelings and questions.

Book Review: Talion by Mary Maddox

Title: Talion
Author: Mary Maddox
Publisher: Cantraip Press
Published: March 27, 2010
ISBN: 978-0984428106

Summary: "The dying body has a thousand voices, and all of them speak to Rad Sanders. Now he has found his tenth and youngest victim, a fifteen-year-old girl whose death will sing more purely and beautifully than any other. Lisa Duncan has no idea she has attracted Rad's interest. When she goes to spend the summer with her aunt and uncle at their small mountain resort in Utah, he tracks her there and awaits his chance.

He watches as Lisa befriends Lu Jakes, the daughter of employees at the resort. Lu enters his fantasies as well. He learns she is being abused by her stepmother and toys with the notion of freeing her from her sad life and keeping her awhile as his captive. Introverted and strange, Lu seems like an easy conquest who could be persuaded to turn on her new friend. But she possesses a power Rad cannot imagine."

This is a really exciting suspenseful novel.  It is definitely not one you should start before you go to bed because you will be unable to put it down.

After Lisa is sent to live with her Aunt and Uncle for the summer, she is bored and looking for something to do.  Since they live on a resort, one day she decides to head to the pool and that is when she meets Lu.  Lu is abused by her step mom and soon becomes friends with Lisa.  But Lu has a secret that she ha never told anyone and lucky for the both of them,   that secret will save them from the monster who followed Lisa to Utah.

Great book!!!  I recommend it everyone who loves mystery and suspense books.  This book will keep you guessing to the end!

Guest Post "Fathers" by Mary Maddox

***And don't forget to check out my review of her book Talion tomorrow!!!***
Fathers

In the second chapter of Talion, as the serial killer Rad begins stalking Lu and Lisa, the two teens are getting to know each other. Lisa has trouble even starting a conversation with Lu and thinks they have nothing whatsoever in common. Lu regards Lisa with a mixture of jealousy and contempt. But their histories reveal a shared bond. Both have been abandoned by their fathers.

For Lisa the abandonment is literal. Since their parents’ divorce, she and her older brother, Randy, have received zero love or attention from their father. His attorney mails out the child support checks; his secretary sends gift cards for their birthdays and Christmas.  It has been four years since they’ve seen him. Lisa wistfully remembers that last visit – shopping and hanging out in a Chicago condo with their father’s girlfriend, who spent far more time with them than he did. Lisa has a loving stepfather, but he’s an ordinary small-town guy, drab in comparison to her rich and sophisticated “real” father. She knows that distant father doesn’t love her, but she can’t help glamorizing him.

Lu’s father, Duane, abandons her to the insanity of his second wife. He fails to protect Lu from Norlene’s brutal abuse. His self-absorption, stupidity, and drunkenness make it possible for him to ignore the bruises on his daughter, but an underlying reason – something he lacks the insight to acknowledge to himself – is the suspicion that Lu isn’t his biological child. Though she closely resembles Duane’s dead first wife, she couldn’t be more different from him. Inwardly Lu has disowned him. When Talion announces that her real father is someone else, she reacts with fierce joy.

Lu and Lisa have too much history and complexity to be reduced to victims. Despite the sometimes harrowing violence, they aren’t in the novel to be Rad’s prey. At its heart, Talion is their story, not his.

I LUV My Lip Stuff!!!

You might remember back in March (Wow!!  Can you believe it has been that long already?) I did a review and giveaway.  They were one of the first giveaways I did and I was so excited when they came in the mail!!

When we lived in CA, we would spend the night at my In-Laws' house on Christmas Eve.  Mom-In-Law would always buy socks and chapstick.  Every year Hubby knew that he would get new socks and in his stocking more chapstick.  Well this year I am going to keep up with the tradition and get everyone chapstick.  But then I thought better and remembered  My Lip Stuff.

So on Cyber Monday (just so happened that was the day I got the idea) I decided to go to their website and order.  I found some really funny flavors that I had to buy.  Blake got Cat Pee, Kayla got Dog Poop, and Hubby got BACON!!!  Can you believe it??  A lip balm that is Bacon flavored!  He will be so excited.

Here is what I ordered:
I bought 8 lip balms with a tote (Black Friday special) and then used 3 coupons.  I saved a $1 and got a free lip balm. The lip balm flavors I picked were: Dog Poop, Cat Pee, Bacon, Pearberry, Apples and Honey Sorbet, Lemonade Ice Cream, Butt Naked,   Pink Cake, and Blackberry Buttercream. {I ordered these on 11/28 and by (actually before but I don't know which day exactly) 12/5 I had received the package.}  And I entered to win a $25 GC.  And guess what??  I WON!!!

So then I decided that when we Grand Open the cafe and bakery, it would be cute to have a contest where customers can win cupcakes, coffee, and Cupcake stuff (like a 2 pack of Cake and Buttercream Lip balms!!)  So with my GC I ordered: a 10 pack of lip balms (5 Pink Cakes and the rest different kinds of buttercreams like lemon, vanilla, blackberry), a tube of cake and another tube of buttercream.  Then I used coupons.  I got a free tube for spending $15+, Free tote for spending $25+, and a free Mystery Tube when you buy 12 tubes.  And then when I went to redeem my $25 GC, I discovered that I had another $10 GC!!!  It must  have been from back when I did the review.  So this entire purchase of 14 tubes and a tote for free.  I placed this order on Dec 5th and according to USPS I should have it by this Friday 12/10!!  When do you ever order something online and get it at your house in 5 days??  AMAZING!!  And this is why I love My Lip Stuff!!!!  You should definitely check them out.

Head Chef Winner....

is #49, Trisha!!  She said "I like the whisk and peeler!!"  She has 48 hours to respond or random.org will choose another winner.  Thanks to everyone who entered and stay tuned this weekend for a bunch more!

Are you a blogger that has a blog that is older than 2 months?  If so then Eden Fantasys wants YOU!!!  They are giving away $25 and $50 electronic gift cards (depending on your post and your blog ranking) in exchange for a post from you that includes a link to their website: http://www.edenfantasys.com/ tagged to one of the following words: "adult toys", "sex toys", or "adult store".  And the awesome part?  You can post 2x a month- Just space them at least 2 weeks apart.  Also for every blogger you refer, you get a $5 GC.  Just make sure your referrals tell Jenn your name and email address  (So if you want to sign up make sure to mention you heard about the program from Allison ~ allison.winfield at yahoo.com!!).

Have you heard of Eden Fantasys before?  They are an awesome adult store that sells everything from toys, to lingerie (I have 3 different outfits and I love them all!!), to books/DVD's and gag gifts.  I wish I knew someone who was getting married so I could plan an OUTRAGEOUS!! party with the fun supplies and gifts Eden Fantasys sells.

They have great customer service and discrete packaging so that the mail man and/or neighbors (or nosy kids) don't realize what kind of goodies are in the box!

They also have an online community Eden Cafe and an online magazine SexIs (I love reading the Blogess's column.  She is hilarious!!).  There is so much more than just a store!!  Be sure to check it out!!
