Please Read!!

This is an amazing post and something that we need to realize and pass on to our children.  And strangely enough, the topic of my research paper last semester. "The Pursuit of Perfection"

Book Review: Terminal Care by Christopher Stookey

Title: Terminal Care
Author: Christopher Stookey
Publisher: Silver Leaf Books
Published: June 1, 2010
ISBN: 978-1609750299

Summary: Phil Pescoe, the 37-year-old emergency physician at Deaconess Hospital in San Francisco, becomes alarmed by a dramatic increase in the number of deaths on the East Annex (the Alzheimer's Ward). The deaths coincide with the initiation of a new drug study on the annex where a team of neurologists have been administering "NAF"-an experimental and highly promising treatment for Alzheimer's disease-to half of the patients on the ward.

This book has everything I love in a novel.  Mystery, suspense, medical drama, (my FAVORITE t.v. show is House!) well developed characters, and even some romance. Phil is one of those characters that will stop at nothing in order to do whats right and I love that.  He is suspended for supposed medical misconduct but he continues to investigate the unusual deaths in the East Annex.  He teams up with a fellow doctor and together they attempt to solve the mystery before more of the patients die.

I also love that the author is himself an ER doctor.  I think that gives the story a believability that  a lot of novels lack.  It is one thing to talk to a doctor about the ER and diseases but it is another thing entirely to have lived it first hand.  I highly recommend this book to people who love medical dramas or  good mysteries.
Warning: This book will hook you in so make sure you don't start reading it at night unless you like being sleep deprived.  You will be unable to put it down!!

Battleship Keychain Review

Since Blake has started school he has always hung about 10 keychains on his backpack. So when I should him the Battleship Keychain that actually opens and you can play the game, he was stoked!!!!!

I was a little skeptical.  A tiny keychain that opens and what has pieces? that you can play? Well I was pleasantly surprised when we received it.  It is bigger than I thought it would be and much sturdier.

"The Battleship key chain features a miniature reproduction of the game box that opens to reveal original game board graphics and removable game pieces for limited game play.  Officially licensed mini Battleship game comes with a sturdy metal key ring."

It is easy to open and close.  The battleships are small but not totally tiny.  Each person gets 2 battleships.  It is just like the real game but in miniature.  I wish we had had this game when we drove cross country.  It would have kept Blake and Kayla occupied and quiet without having having to lug around a huge game.

Book Review: Love means Zero by Daisy Jordan

Title: Love Means Zero
Author: Daisy Jordan
Publisher: Llumina Press
Published: August 14, 2010
ISBN:  978-1605945293

Summary: A chance encounter in a Rome hotel, two tremendously damaging photographs, and Hilton Joliet's life is instantly altered. Previously working a dead-end job as an assistant in a portrait studio, she is now a freelance photographer for Game Set Match magazine, "the Us Weekly of tennis," as she calls it. Thrown rapidly into a jet-setting life of world-class tennis, the best seats at the best matches, and trailing the hottest young tennis stars and their model and actress girlfriends, Hilton, a former tennis player herself, can't imagine a more fun job or a better way to jump-start her career while her boyfriend Luke finishes law school.

This is literally my dream!! (Well minus the whole tennis thing.)  I am somewhere taking pictures and they are bought by a magazine!!  Then the magazine loves me and my photos so much, they pay me (and for me) to travel around taking pictures.  This is what happens to Hilton.  She gets to travel around following the professional tennis tournaments and parting after with the world raked tennis stars!!  But the more she travels, the less she wants to settle down back in her small town.  even though her boyfriend and her had planned for her to travel while he finished law school, but now that that time has come.. well he is a little bitter about being stuck in Small Town, USA while Hilton travels the world.

This book is very well written and the characters come to life!  After 50 pages, you feel as if you actually know Hilton and her friends.  You are almost there with them New Years Eve while they party it up in NYC.  Daisy Jordan has other books about these friends and I am definitely going back to read them.  This book is a great light, fun read that is perfect for tennis fans and those who have never watched a match alike.

For more about the author and her novels go check out her {Guest Post}.  I highly recommend this book!!  Rating: Photobucket

Guest Post by Daisy Jordan!! Author of Love Means Zero.

In my first novel, Everything Happens for a Reason…, the main character, Jill, has a baby at age 21. The book tells the turbulent story of her pregnancy and her heart-wrenching relationship with the father. After that, because of feedback I got from readers who loved the characters, I went back and wrote about Jill and her friends in high school, in a 4-book series called Spin the Bottle that tells how Jill got to be where she is in Everything Happens for a Reason…. These books are full of excitement, drama, and the typical romantic suspense of high school. One of my biggest fears when I started writing Love Means Zero, which takes place 2 years after Everything Happens for a Reason…, was that readers would no longer find Jill’s life so fascinating.

While Love Means Zero is mostly about Hilton, Jill still plays a large role as Hilton’s roommate and best friend, and I wanted to give her a significant side plot of her own for my readers who are true Jill fans. I knew they would want to know what’s going on with her, but I was afraid when they were reintroduced to her as a 24-year-old with a 2½-year-old child, living a happy and stable domestic life, they would lose interest in her.

This, of course, comes from the perspective of someone who is 27 and has no children, but many of my friends and young teen or twenty-something readers have no children either. Writing about Jill as a mom was one of my biggest challenges as an author so far. But I’m really happy with how it turned out. I realized as I wrote more and more of the book that Jill’s life wasn’t going to be boring, because Jill’s an adventurous, fun-loving person. She would never settle for her life being boring. For one thing, while she does live with her boyfriend and daughter, she also still lives with Hilton and Hilton’s boyfriend Luke. The 5 of them are best friends and form their own little family, in a way, and I think readers who have followed Jill and Hilton over the years will agree it’s a perfect living situation for them.

Jill also has a couple surprises coming her way in Love Means Zero, both of which will change her life in pretty thrilling ways. But the biggest thing I realized that made writing about Jill as a mom so much easier is that just because she’s a mom doesn’t mean she’s stopped being Jill. She’s still a fiercely loyal friend, she still spends sunny summer days laying out at the pool, and she’s still just as in love with her boyfriend and as excited about their relationship as she’s ever been. So while Love Means Zero is a completely new chapter in her life, it’s a great one. I hope all my readers out there, whether you already know Jill or not, will love reading about her life as a young mom! J

Daisy Jordan is an obsessive tennis fan and wrote Love Means Zero, in which Hilton gets a job as a photographer for a tennis magazine, so she could live out her dream-job fantasy through Hilton. But don’t worry If you’re not a tennis fan; Love Means Zero still has all the drama and suspense of Daisy’s previous books! Those books include Everything Happens for a Reason…, the Spin the Bottle series, and All That Sparkles Isn’t Real Sapphire. Before she published her first book, Daisy grew up in Indiana watching tennis all summer every summer on TV and having her own fair share of high school and college boy drama. She now lives in Denver and religiously fills out brackets for every Grand Slam with her brother Josh, while still managing to find time for boy drama. Daisy can be found online at:

Question of the Week: What birthday has hit you the hardest?  I think 25 was the hardest so far.  I turn 30 Jan 31, 2012 and that will be SO HARD so I am already making plans for a trip to Vegas with Hubby and all my friends.  I don't feel old enough to be 29 in January.

So which Birthday has been your hardest??

Greatest Idea Ever!!!

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.  Hubby and I have been talking for a couple of weeks  that when I get my school refund (I get more grant $ then I have tuition) we should start a cafe/bakery.  I have loved baking since I was little.  I was never into cooking (until recently when with 5 kids it became a necessity) but I loved to bake. And Hubby has wanted to open his own restaurant since 2004.  So this would be a dream come true for the both of us.

Well then I received an email from the financial aid office saying that since I have completed 100+ units, they were no longer giving me financial aid.  I freaked out!!  Not only could we not open the cafe but I would have to drop out a year away from graduation!! But I could appeal, so that what I did.  My counselor wrote a letter saying how close I am to graduation and I wrote one too.  I reminded them (in case they can't read my transcripts) that yes I transferred in with 64.5 units BUT I am actually only using 15!!  The rest are considered electives since ETSU doesn't offer an equivalent class.  We found out last night that they approved my appeal!!  WOOHOO!!  I don't have to be a college dropout.

Family Sanity Reviews

Earlier today on facebook, Simply Stacie posted about a new Blog Challenge she is hosting with Family Sanity Reviews, and The Little Yayas.  The challenge is called Leap Out of Your Box and the challenge is to do something, start something, face a fear, or change your life somehow.  Out of all the entries, the top 10 will be the ones with the biggest, hardest, most scary challenges.  Then everyone will vote to decide who is the ultimate challenge champion. They will win $3000 in prizes.

I decided that my 30  day challenge is to open the cafe!!!  Well mabe not get it open in 30 days but at least be taking steps in that direction.  I think that without this motivation, Hubby and I would continue to TALK about opening a cafe but never actually get one opened.  I figure everyday or 2, I will post on how I am doing with the challenge.  I need to test recipes, develop a menu, get a fictious business name, business license, find a location... The list goes on and on. Hopefully this will also help for days when I feel discouraged, my readers can chime in with some encouraging words!!  I went and made a blog for the cafe and will blog about the challenge there as well.  The Crazy Cupcake  Please head over there and follow  and help support our dream and the Leap Out of Your Box Challenge!!!!  THANKS!!!
